Who This Policy Covers

This policy applies to all visitors to our Site, all individuals who request services, donate, volunteer, sign up for communications, or otherwise interact with Veterans Legacy Collective, regardless of whether they are veterans, family members, supporters, professionals, or members of the general public.

Information We Collect

Information you provide directly. When you contact us, request services, schedule an appointment, donate, volunteer, or sign up for updates, you may provide information including your name, email address, mailing address, and phone number; information about your military service, including branch, era, and discharge status, if you share it with us; information relevant to the services you are requesting, such as employment goals, business interests, housing needs, or general benefits questions; donation information, including amount, frequency, and payment details; and communications you send us through forms, email, or other channels.

Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, our hosting provider and analytics tools may automatically collect IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, pages visited, time spent on pages, referring website, and information collected through cookies and similar technologies.

Information from third parties. We may receive information from payment processors, email service providers, scheduling tools, and similar service providers when you use those services to interact with us. We do not purchase contact lists or acquire information about you from data brokers.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to provide the services you request, including appointments, education, mentorship, and referrals; process donations and send acknowledgments and tax receipts; communicate with you about programs, events, and our mission; match veterans with appropriate mentors, partners, or opportunities within our network; improve the Site, our programs, and our communications; comply with legal obligations, including tax reporting, charitable solicitation requirements, and IRS Form 990 disclosures; and protect the rights, safety, and property of Veterans Legacy Collective, our staff, and the individuals we serve.

We do not use your information for purposes you would not reasonably expect based on the context in which you provided it.

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:

Service providers. We use trusted third-party providers to operate the Site and our programs, including website hosting, payment processing, email services, scheduling tools, and analytics. These providers have access only to the information needed to perform their services and are obligated to protect it.

Network referrals, with your consent. When you ask us to connect you with a mentor, professional, employer, lender, real estate professional, advisor, or other partner, we share only the information needed for that introduction, and we make the introduction only with your knowledge and direction.

Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or government request, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of any person.

Affiliated entities. Veterans Legacy Collective may operate or be affiliated with separate entities that support its mission, including subsidiaries or partner organizations. Where information sharing across affiliated entities is necessary to serve you, we will do so only consistent with this policy and with appropriate safeguards.

Business transfers. In the unlikely event of a merger, acquisition, dissolution, or transfer of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to the protections of this policy.

Sensitive Information

Some information you share with us — including details about your military service, disability status, financial circumstances, or family situation — is sensitive in nature. We treat this information with heightened care. We collect only what is necessary to provide the services you have requested. Access is limited to staff and authorized volunteers who need it to support you. We do not publish, share publicly, or use this information for marketing without your express consent. We do not represent veterans before the Department of Veterans Affairs and do not handle protected VA claims information in any official capacity.

Donor Information

Donor information is governed by both this Privacy Policy and our Donor Privacy Policy. We do not sell, rent, lease, or trade donor information. We use donor information only to process contributions, send acknowledgments and tax receipts, communicate about our mission, and meet legal reporting obligations. Donors may request to be removed from communications at any time.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies to function properly, remember your preferences, analyze traffic, and improve user experience. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect Site functionality. We do not use cookies for cross-site advertising or behavioral profiling.

Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and trusted third-party providers with their own security standards. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information consistent with industry practice for organizations of our size and mission.

If we become aware of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and applicable authorities as required by law.

Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to provide services, comply with legal and tax obligations (including IRS recordkeeping requirements), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we securely delete or de-identify it.

Your Choices and Rights

You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you; correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete; request deletion of your information, subject to our legal recordkeeping obligations; opt out of marketing or fundraising communications at any time, by clicking unsubscribe in any email or contacting us directly; and withdraw consent for any processing that relies on your consent.

To exercise these rights, contact us using the information at the bottom of this page. We will respond within a reasonable time consistent with applicable law.

State-specific rights. Residents of certain states (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and others) may have additional rights under state privacy laws. We honor those rights regardless of where you live, provided we can verify your identity. While nonprofit organizations are exempt from some state privacy laws, we extend equivalent protections as a matter of policy.

Children's Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

The Site may contain links to third-party websites, including partner organizations, government resources, and service providers. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.
